Our class spent today with ethnographer Alan Munro. The master of design and master of ethnography students all brought in some lunch time food to represent our home country. It was definitely a new experience for everyone. We had american peanut and jelly sandwiches, korean noodles, scottish irn bru, italian tiramisu…
The focus of today was learning how to use personas and scenarios to gain user insight.
Alan was really interested in the ethnographic work I carried out in Amsterdam, it was great to share my insights with a professional ethnographer. In groups we focused on creating personas for travellers. I focused on the categories I devised whilst exploring narrow casting in Amsterdam Centraal.

really interesting post lauren, persona’s and storyboards are a crucial tool for gaining insight, its a great way to find problems within user experiences. We recently used a tool called body storming, which is basically a very practical and active brainstorming tool, but instead of just drawing/writing out the ideas on paper or post it’s you draw out your ideas on full scale and put them in context, this way you can then walk through the scenario and experience it, its a great way to trigger new ideas, discover ridiculous ideas and see where changes need to be made!
Thanks eilidh…we tried out the body storming last year…think I like post-its better :) Although, the body storming is a really good team building tool!
